Outreach Ministries
The Blessing Box:
The Blessing Box is one of several Community Outreach ministries sponsored by our Church.
It is intended to help Mt. Holly’s homeless citizens with no fixed address and/or those who may need food or personal items to get them through a rough patch.
Originally started by the Girl Scouts, it is now managed and stocked by Church volunteers; providing non-perishable food and personal hygiene items to those in need.

Backpack Weekend Food Program:
This is the 13th year our church has supported the Gaston County Backpack Weekend Food Program (BWFP). BWFP works with a Caromont Hospital dietitian to come up with nutritious
weekly menus.
During the school year, our volunteers pick up food from the BWFP warehouse, pack the bags and deliver them to Ida Rankin Elementary School, for children from low-income households.
For the 2023-2024 school year our church is charged only $341/child which works out to less than $5/day per child. We have committed to over 20 children this year.

First Methodist Church Preschool:

First Methodist Church Preschool has been serving the community since 1966. Our mission is to provide a safe, nurturing, faith-based environment in which children ages 1-5 can learn, grow, and thrive.
Gastonia Street Ministry:
This ministry serves the Gaston County homeless population with food, clothing, and spiritual support.
Our Church provides and serves meals the first Thursday of: February, April, June, August, October and December.
Everyone is welcome to participate in the blessing of meal preparation and / or serving this community of needy people.

Internal Ministries
Women On A Mission (WOAM):
Women On A Mission (WOAM) is the name of the women's group at our Church. WOAM is open to women of all ages - members and friends of the Church.
The main purpose of WOAM is to review the needs of the community and local area and focus on specific organizations supporting missions focused on women and children.
We currently have two circles - one meeting in the morning and the other at night.

Wesley Brotherhood:
The mission of the Wesley Brotherhood (formerly United Methodist Men) at our Church is to provide men with a sense of purpose, fulfill God’s calling of accountability, and grow in love and fellowship.
We meet every 3rd Saturday morning for breakfast, encouragement, prayer, and sometimes a guest speaker.
Membership is open to all members and friends of the Church.

Merry Methodists:
Our 50+ Senior Adults add a dimension of life no one else can give; willing to laugh, share fellowship with others, and have a great time praising the Lord.
Our activities include day-trips to area points of interest, special activities, and visits to other Christian Mission organizations.

Pioneers – A small group for 55+ adults, meeting in the Church Library @ 9:45 AM. The format is devotional, with prayer board and an instructor led "Bible in Life" series with discussion. Contact: Bonnie Seward
Wednesday Night Meal:
This informal gathering is held each Wednesday at 5:45 PM in the Fellowship Hall. In addition to a variety of "picnic style" foods such as BBQ, hotdogs, hamburgers, and spaghetti, this meal coincides with other group activities; choir practice, Youth Group, Kids Club, and Bible study. A small donation is requested to cover costs.

Children's Ministry
FMC’s children's ministry teaches children to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior and to adopt values centered around religion, empathy, and discipline, as well as everyday life as they grow up with a foundation in Jesus’ ministry - not being afraid to share it with others.

During Sunday morning children’s church, we learn bible verses and help the children to really understand and know what they are saying.

During Wednesday night Kids Club, we read bible stories, reviewing and continuing what we learned the previous week. We also have fun with a combination of learning games as well as arts and crafts.

Special events are organized throughout the year
The ages for Children’s Church and Kids Club are: 3yrs - 5th grade (all children must be potty trained). Nursery is also available for infants and up to 3yrs of age during both services and Wednesday nights.
*Children’s church is only for the 10:55 service.
