The BackPack Weekend Food Program
The upcoming 2026–27 school year marks our church's 16th year supporting the BackPack Weekend Food Program.
The BackPack Weekend Food Program works with a registered dietitian from CaroMont Health to develop nutritious weekly menus for participating students. During the school year, volunteers from our church help pack food into individual weekend bags, which are then delivered to Ida Rankin Elementary School for qualifying students from low-income households. The number of children we are able to serve each year depends on available funding and the cost of the program.
Rising food costs have increased the cost of providing each child's weekly food supply, making community support more important than ever. Donations help ensure that we can continue providing this valuable service to children in our community.
Food insecurity continues to affect children and families throughout Gaston County. Many local children live in households where putting enough nutritious food on the table can be a challenge. The BackPack Weekend Food Program helps bridge that gap by providing children with food to take home each weekend during the school year. This support can make a meaningful difference for a child and their family.
We welcome donations from members of our congregation and the wider community. Every contribution helps provide nutritious food to a local child who needs it. Your support can help us continue this ministry and ensure that local children have food to take home each weekend.
